One of the favorite city destination in Western Europe noted for its romantic appeal is Paris; it is also one of the best European city destinations. For most people visiting Paris, a short stay is often the way they first see the city; there is so much to see and do that often only the main tourist attractions can be fitted in.

This city is also equally well known for its gothic architecture and markets; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals; the underground train system or Metro can take you to anywhere within the city and is simple to use.

No visit would be complete without a trip to the top of the almost 1,000 feet tall Eiffel tower; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. Illuminated at night it dominates the city's skyline; if you are really enthusiastic you can take a tour where the guide will tell you how this beautiful tower was built.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; you can see beautiful shops, sit and drink coffee from the many cafes or have a meal in a first class restaurant. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; the average tourist may find the accommodation expensive but more modest hotels can be found away from this area.

A trip to would not be complete without a visit to the Louvre museum; with over 300,000 wonderful artistic works, you simply cannot see all of it in one day. The problem is a Paris short stay will only ever provide a glimpse of what can be seen here; the Venus de Milo is displayed here and of course the Mona Lisa. What makes Paris special is the number of artists that have been attracted to this great capital; these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.

Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; engraved with the names of generals that commanded his troops, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Paris. Although not generally well known, the Arc had an observatory installed after it was constructed to provide views of neighboring areas; it can be found in Charles de Gaulle Place at the intersection of twelve avenues including the Champs Elysees.

Of course this article can only give a small sample places to visit; and whilst there are many more worthy examples, those listed here should not be missed. Most people find their Paris short stay vacations exciting but only see a glimpse of what's on offer; anything that's missed will have to take a rain check.
